Larry Nelson finished with at 15-under-par total

The 2001 Winner of the Charity Classic was Larry Nelson with a final score of 201

The Country Club Classic is pleased to announce the real winners of the 2001 tournament – local charities. Last year’s event generated over $307,000 for local charities with contributions totaling over 2.8 million for the history of the event.

Local recipients of donations from the Country Club Classic include the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston and Assabet Valley, Emerson Hospital, Hanscom Air Force Base–Project Concern, Concord/Carlisle Boosters, MGA FOREKIDS Golf Camps, Lincoln/Sudbury Boosters and Shriners Hospitals for Children, as well as many others.  Added to the list of charitable recipients this year was The Good Grief Program at Boston Medical Center, with funds earmarked to help children of the 147 Boston victims of the September 11th errorist attacks.

Good Grief supports children and families facing loss by focusing on relationships, early intervention, anticipatory guidance and group support. "Our thoughts this year are especially with the victims of the tragedy of last September," said Club President, Christopher Gaumnitz. "We were able to contribute to this special support group for families affected by the 9/11 tragedy only through the tireless efforts of our more than 1,500 volunteers, the SENIOR TOUR Fans, our sponsors, and of course, the Country Club Membership. The charitable aspects of the tournament are most gratifying to all of us who work towards a successful event each year."
